The Choma Magistrates Court has sentenced a 27 year old ‘fake soldier’ to nine months simple imprisonment for impersonating a public officer.
Byta FM Court Beat Journalist reports that Moses Chama of Kachacha in Choma appeared before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri on allegations of posing as a soldier under the Zambia Army.
Chama was found guilty and testified that he did not know what he was doing.
He allegedly went to the Zambia Army Southern Command Office on 11th February and introduced himself as Moses Sikazwe, the third son to the Zambia Army Commander, William Sikazwe.
According to investigations, Chama wanted to acquire a Zambia Army Uniform, but failed after his cover was blown as Moses Chama.
The Army Southern Command recovered a Working Suit, Knife and a Zambia Army branded T-shirt.
In her ruling on Friday, Magistrate Phiri acknowledged that Chama was a first offender and remorseful of his actions – thereby handing down a nine month simple imprisonment.
