…while police say gassing cases have simmered down.
The number of people killed in Lusaka by mobs on suspicion of being involved in ongoing gassing incidents has risen to nine (9) in less than two days, Byta FM has learnt.
“Yesterday around 1600hours in Lusaka’s Chipwalu near Chazanga compound, a mob killed a male adult and seriously injured eight others on suspicion that they were behind chemical spraying. The survivors are receiving treatment while the body is in UTH mortuary,” reveals Police Spokesperson, Esther Katongo.
Katongo also discloses that a mob stoned a female adult to death around 2200hours in Kanyama, while another mob killed a male adult aged below 25 years and was found with both hands and legs tied.
Meanwhile, Katongo reveals that residents of Kanyama apprehended two suspects after they sprayed a house in Makeni Simson this morning — leaving four people chocked from the mysterious Chemical.
People in the neighbourhood managed to block a minibus carrying the two suspects while they tried to speed-off following calls for help from the victims.
Katongo adds that they found two occupants and a 5 liter container containing a bluish substance with four empty plastic bottles – which have since been taken for analysis.
They were handed over to police.
Elsewhere, Katongo reveals that two houses were sprayed in Chipata Compound and the criminals reportedly removed iron sheets on the roof of the houses and sprayed the chemical inside.
She adds that three victims reportedly became unconscious in this case and were rushed to Chipata level 1 hospital for medical attention.
Katongo says the security situation as regards reports of spraying has reduced, but she has expressed concern that people have continued to take the law into their own hands.
